Overview

The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Western Dental accounting team, reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer. The Accounting Manager is a leader in the general accounting team to providing timely, relevant and accurate financial reporting. The Accounting Manager also works closely with the accounting/finance leadership, other corporate functions and operations management to support the business.

 

In addition to a strong understanding of financial accounting and reporting and superior analytical and problem-solving skills, the successful candidate will have the ability to continually improve systems and processes and to coach and develop subordinates in order to build a high-performing accounting team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the general accounting and financial closing process to deliver complete, accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Interface with the payroll, accounts payable and revenue cycle management and other teams to ensure that all accounting data is complete and accurate.
  • Supervise and review the work of staff/senior accountants.
  • Calculate and review accruals, estimates and judgmental items in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Analyze and document the accounting treatment for unusual or non-routine transactions.
  • Maintain effective internal control over financial reporting.
  • Review existing accounting processes and work flow; recommend and implement improvements to streamline and accelerate the closing and reporting cycle.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize the use available system tools to automate accounting and reporting processes, and implement solutions.
  • Provide accurate and actionable analysis of operating results compared to plan and forecast.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and period reforecasting processes as necessary.
  • Support management in decisions on investments and cost controls to achieve operating goals.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on key operating metrics including sales, working capital, capital expenditures.
  • Train, develop and motivate staff/senior accountants and offshore accountants.
  • Develop and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Interface with external auditors, tax advisors and other service providers.
  • Prepare GAAP and regulatory basis financial reports as required, including related schedules and supporting workpapers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience (health care or other relevant industry experience preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting or finance.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting information systems (JDE experience a plus).
  • Ability to understand complex business operations and analyze operating results.
  • Demonstrated experience improving and automating the financial closing and reporting process.
  • Knowledge of property tax and sales/use tax compliance a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficient in Microsoft Office suite and similar applications.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Unquestioned personal integrity and work ethic.
