Overview

The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Western Dental accounting team, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. The Senior Accountant provides timely, relevant and accurate financial reporting and works closely with the accounting/finance leadership, other corporate functions and operations management to support the business.

 

In addition to a strong understanding of financial accounting and reporting and superior analytical and problem-solving skills, the successful candidate will have the ability to continually improve systems and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in month-end close activities, which include balancing sheet reconciliations, ad-hoc analyses, trial balance reviews, and financial statement preparation, while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded in accordance with US GAAP and company policy.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all assigned balance sheet accounts, including preparing detailed account reconciliations monthly.
  • Document accounting processes and procedures and identify areas for improvement; recommend and implement improvements to streamline and accelerate the closing and reporting cycle.
  • Support external audits and prepare assigned schedules.
  • Lead projects, ad hoc analyses, creation of new reports, audit existing reports and other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks may be required from time to time.
  • Calculate and review accruals, estimates and judgmental items in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Assist with the integration of acquired businesses as required.
  • Maintain effective internal control over financial reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize the use available system tools to automate accounting and reporting processes, and implement solutions.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on key operating metrics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience in a complex, multi-location environment (health care or other relevant industry experience preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting information systems (JDE experience a plus).
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and similar applications.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Unquestioned personal integrity and work ethic.
