Overview

The Accounting Associate supports the daily financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of cash activity, premium receivables, vendor payables, and general ledger entries. This role works closely with Finance, Operations, and external partners to maintain strong financial controls and support regulatory and audit requirements typical in the insurance industry. The role centers on cash management, accounts receivable, and accounts payable within an insurance‑company environment, with an emphasis on accuracy, controls, and timely financial processing. 

Responsibilities

  • Cash Management – Monitor daily cash activity across operating and premium accounts; track cash positions; and prepare daily cash reports. Process Positive Pay checks clearing bank accounts.  Process check traces and stop payment requests as needed; and support treasury processes.  
  • Accounts Receivable – Process ACH drafts for premiums; Record premium receipts; reconcile carrier and broker payments; research discrepancies; maintain aging schedules; support collections and follow‑up with internal teams. 
  • Accounts Payable – Process vendor invoices; verify coding and approvals; prepare payment runs; maintain vendor files; ensure timely and accurate disbursements. 
  • General Ledger Support – Post journal entries; assist with month‑end close; reconcile balance sheet accounts; maintain documentation for audit and regulatory review. 
  • Insurance‑Specific Financial Support – Prepare premium tax filings; Assist with premium reconciliation, claims funding payments, TPA remittances, and other insurance‑related financial workflows. 
  • Reporting & Compliance – Prepare routine financial reports; support statutory reporting needs; maintain organized records aligned with internal controls and audit standards. 
  • Systems & Process Improvement — Utilize accounting software (Sage preferred) to streamline workflows; identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience; insurance or financial‑services experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Sage, QuickBooks, or other accounting platforms.
  • Strong understanding of cash reconciliation, receivables, and payables processes.
  • Proficiency in Excel and general ledger systems.
  • Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable working cross‑functionally.
